Language Development. Colors are often the first adjectives your child will learn and use. Color is used to describe and identify specific objects, helping your child to learn how to pronounce many different words. Vocabulary Expansion. By incorporating colors to describe various items, your child expands their vocabulary too. Discovering new items of a certain color helps them learn new words to name the items, such as a red apple, a red fire truck, a red shirt and so forth. Learning to Read. Many early reading books use pictures to replace new or difficult words. If your child can recognise a red apple, they will be able to read a sentence with a picture of a red apple in it. Recognizing certain objects by their color as well as their shape helps your child learn how to read.

Keeping your kids busy in the winter can be a magic act. There’s only so many times that you can take them to the mall playground before they get a serious attack of the flu because of the coughing kids. So how do you keep them busy while staying in the safety of your own home? Well, if you go into the Online Games section of the Fisher Price websites, they have tons of printable worksheets for you to get your kids and entertain them. The key is to get tons of crayons, and sit with your kids while they color the shapes and talk to them about what it is that they are dong. Talk to them about the colors that they are using, how many sides each shape has, how do you spell the name of the shape, how you spell the name of the color that they are using, etc. The object of the activity is for you to really interact with your child for them to learn their shapes.

To summarize: math worksheets don’t teach, teachers teach. Of course, there is a place for math worksheets. After some instruction has occurred, math worksheets can provide extended practice and support development in fluency, provided the teacher is engaged with students as they work. Teachers who are effective at grouping students can use math worksheets as a springboard for discussions, discovery, and communication. So the next time you do a search for curriculum materials, skip the worksheets. Instead, consider resources that provide interactive experiences or consider sites that provide students with challenging problems. These sites will more likely engage students, foster discussion, and build a true understanding of the purpose and joy of learning math. Although preschool workbooks are popular, many parents like the convenience that is associated with printable preschool worksheets. The only problem with printable preschool worksheets is that they can use up a lot ink, especially if the selected preschool worksheets are in colored ink. To save yourself money and printer ink, you may want to search for preschool worksheets that are in black and white. If you are unable to find black and white preschool worksheets that you like, you can still go for the colored ones; however, you may want to consider adjusting your printer settings. Instead of having them print off in colored ink, you may want to adjust your settings to gray scale. This will save you a considerable amount of money and printer ink, especially in the long run. Doing this can also create an additional activity for your child, as you can have them color all the pictures themselves.

After writing that article, I found another credible teacher who has written many ezine articles expounding on the benefits of worksheets. I decided some clarification of position is in order. The primary problem with most math worksheets is that the problems are already written out and the child need only write the answers. For learning and practicing the basic skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, it is much more beneficial for the child to write out the entire fact and say the entire fact out loud. A child will learn a multiplication fact much faster if they are writing out 6 x 8 = 48 at the same time they are saying ”six times eight is forty-eight” than if they just see 6 x 8 = ___ and only have to supply the 48.

Other Benefits of Worksheets. In addition to the benefit of completing some of the work away from the computer, you will be able to take these worksheets with you anywhere you go. This means if you go on vacation, your child can still complete some of his school work. With the use of these worksheets, your child will also be able to work on his penmanship skills. With the use of computers, too many people are losing their penmanship. When you choose to homeschool your child, it is important to use all the resources available to you to ensure your child gets the proper education. This includes finding online worksheets for kids in the subjects you intend to cover. You can then print up the worksheets so your child can complete them away from the computer, allowing your child to work anywhere you go. In addition, these worksheets will allow your child to work on his penmanship, serving more than one purpose to your child’s education.
